What a Great News Week!
It all started with a story like I never covered before! There was a police chase involving both the OPP and Durham Regional Police that started in Ajax, working its way Eastbound along the 401 to Thickson Rd. in Whitby. Here is where the driver exited the highway, temporarily losing police and hitting several cars along the way. Police rediscovered the vehicle's location and the pursuit was started again. Eventually the driver drove onto Gallimere Court in Whitby, and realizing he had no exit, drove between 2 homes, down a hill then up a treed embankment at the back of the properties. All this with an OPP SUV in tow. After the driver fled the vehicle a foot pursuit was started and the suspect was taken into custody in a marsh area beyond the fence line. With assistance from the CTV News helicopter and another CTV ground crew, we were able to put together this full piece for the 6 and 11:30 broadcasts.

When It Rains...It Pours...Even on a Sunny Day
Today was a very busy and unique news day! It all started around 11 a.m. when I heard about a car accident on Kinsale Rd. in North Pickering. The accident came in as an MVC with 2 people seriously injured and 3 people missing in the field. This all turned into what was a car jacked vehicle that crashed and the 3 missing were associated with an earlier Home Depot robbery.
Somehow the 3 people made their way to the Ajax GO Station, with the York Region helicopter not far behind but not close enough to locate the suspects. At this time it is still believed that they are outstanding.
In addition there was a house fire on Heron St. in Ajax, caused by a welding incident in a washroom. Ajax Fire was on scene much of the day dealing with continuous flare ups from the original fire.

The good from the tragic on CTV News Toronto, January 8th
On January 8th, just one week after the passing of Jacoub Favila, 7, on the 401, a police officer and police dispatcher did what they could to help the family however possible with the transfer of funds to the family of Jacoub. Members of the public generously donated to the family and still can through an account set up to help the family financially as much as possible when there is nothing else that can be done for the Favila family and their loss. Footage aired on CTV News Toronto, January 8th @ 6.
